OverviewLocated as part of the famous Tonquin Valley Ramparts, Paragon Peak is an excellent introduction to climbing in Tonquin. The rock is very sound, the views are spectacular.
Getting ThereFrom Jasper, drive south on Hwy 93 to the Hwy 93A turnoff. Follow 93A until you see signs for Mt. Edith Cavell. Turn right and follow road to parking lot for the Tonquin Valley. This is the Astoria River trailhead.
Follow trail for 18 km to the Alpine Club of Canada Wates-Gibson Hut. The approach from the hut is very straightforward, less than 1 hour to base of climb.

Parks Canada wilderness pass and hut fees through the Alpine Club of Canada if staying at hut.
If camping at Amethyst Lake, you need to sign in at the visitors centre and pay backcountry camping fees.
You can do a voluntary registration with the wardens if you wish.
CampingIt is best to stay at the ACC Wates-Gibson Hut, as the nearest backcountry campgrounds would add several kilometers to the approach.
